En 2011, escribí en un periódico de la competencia un artículo titulado ‘Personajes de Fitzgerald’ perseguido por la lectura del ‘Crack Up’ y viendo la que se nos venía encima. El relato del naufragio de la generación perdida, se ajusta, como anillo al dedo a nuestros infaustos días, a nuestra hecatombe generacional.

No hace mucho, se reeditó ‘Cómo sobrevivir con 36 mil dólares al año’ y, desde que cayó en mis manos, no dejo de volver a él una y mil veces. Me confieso un enfermo de Fitzgerald, lo digo sin sonrojo.

Así que algo se me revolvió en las entrañas cuando vi que las luminarias de un Hollywood nada dorado se marcaba un ‘remake’ de la obra cumbre de Fitzgerald, y a pesar de los malísimos presagios tuve la osadía de ir a verla. Aún sabiendo que iba a una muerte segura, me sentí tocado y hundido.

No voy a hacer ningún comentario venenoso al engendro, pero he manifestado a mi familia que si el director de marras vuelve a realizar un acto de terrorismo cinematográfico como el perpetrado en la obra de Fitzgerald con una película de John Ford, me embarcaré en una cruzada contra él, aunque me lleve el resto de mi vida.
